On October 10th our group heads to Somerset East
(a few hours away from Jbay) to help lead an HIV/AIDS awareness program. The program is centered around a movie called “Beat the Drum” and is designed
to educate the people of Africa about AIDS, as well as to help dispel common
myths and to get people talking about the subject. Following the movie, leaders
will facilitate a small group discussion using curriculum books. The curriculum
challenges people with topics like abstinence, purity, self-worth, etc. As
leaders we will receive training on this curriculum as well as on how to
counsel people about AIDS.

The AIM team, as well as other missionaries based out of
Jbay (probably about 100 people total) will be leading this program all over
the town of Somerset East, in schools, hospitals, prisons, and churches. For
the 10 days we are there we will be staying with hosts from the community. This
will be another branch of our ministry there.

I don’t know a lot about the program yet, but I am really
excited about it! There are still a lot of details to work out, so please be
praying for the logistics of this program, as well as for the people that we
will reach while we are there. Also, at this point AIM still needs $1500 to
purchase the curriculum books for the program. If you would like donate
specifically for this cause please go to www.adventures.org,
and look for the link that says “give” at the top of the page. Click on AIM Staff, and in the staff member line type “Beat the Drum”. Checks
can be made out to Adventures in Missions with Beat the Drum in the memo line.
Please do not put money in my support account because it will not be used for
Beat the Drum!

I can’t wait to see what God does through this. Thanks for
all your prayers and support!
