The campers left this morning, which meant that I got to
take a shower, nap for a couple of hours in my own bed, and eat dinner with my
team instead of 300 teenagers!

Dinner tasted soooo good. We had some sort
of sausage, mixed veggies, and amazing mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes
were just right, not too creamy, not too lumpy.

That’s how I would describe this camp experience. Overall it
was a good experience, but God threw in just enough “lumps” to make it
interesting. He was definitely working some stuff out in my heart and it wasn’t
easy. And even though in the beginning I wasn’t excited to work this camp, it
turned out to be a great week. So it was hard, but good at the same time. This
isn’t making much sense, but I am still processing everything!

My small group was really awesome. They all have hearts that
are eager to know God more and follow Him more closely. They opened up a lot
about where they are in their spiritual walks, the pressures they face at
school, frustrations with family, and their desire to become leaders in their
churches. I really enjoyed getting to know them and spending time with them! I
do feel like there was so much more I could have poured into them, but I pray
that this week made an impact on their lives and that they go home with a
deeper understanding of the Gospel and a desire to be a light to their friends
and family.

Some things I learned this week:

  1. I am
eager to serve God, unless it involves sacrificing personal space, hot
showers, and sleep.  I am learning
what it means to die to myself.
  2. South
African teenagers aren’t so different from American teenagers!
  3. God
has a lot of room to do amazing things when believers join together in
constant prayer, relying on the spirit rather than holding on so tightly
    to the schedule.
  4. South
Africans are way more laid back than Americans! (Worship at 7 means
    worship at 7:30!)
  5. Apparently I have a funny accent 🙂

  1. Thanks for serving and being obedient even when you were reluctant at first. God uses us in our weaknesses, He just wants a willing heart.

I love the things you post! I really admire you and your willingness to serve no matter where the call or what God wants you to do. You’re amazing!

  3. So true that SA teens aren’t so different. What a great week, I’m so glad I was able to experience it with you. Life is definitely like mash potatoes. It often has lumps in it, but the growing process is what makes it all worthwhile.

You are an amazing servant of the Lord with a huge heart!!

  4. Being willing to make yourself submissive to the will of God is is HARD but what bleesings can flow from it. It is not common for the child to teach the parent, I am blessed! Blessings on you and your team!
